Best of 2014 weddings

Well, 2014, what can I say..?!  Having spent the past couple of days preparing this blog post, I am left feeling totally overwhelmed and more than a little humbled by all the incredible wedding days I have been invited to be a part of.  I have worked with so many absolutely amazing people, photographed weddings in a range of locations, including woodlands, beaches, tipis and gardens, as well as some truly stunning churches.  It never fails to amaze me how emotional the journey is with each wedding day.  I watch each couple preparing for their ceremony, feel the anticipation, see the parents' emotions, the excitement rising, all leading to this incredible moment of joining together in the ceremony.  I love the final meeting of each couple, the first look at each other, the solemnity of the vows.  I love the sense of release afterwards, the smiles, the stolen glances in church, the kisses and the confetti. It is then wonderful to join with the celebrations through the rest of the day, to listen to the speeches and see the tears and laughter, to watch each couple surrounded by all the people that they love most, and to capture this amazing time for them.  It gives me such immense pleasure to photograph all this and to create a set of images that help them to remember the feelings of their wedding day for ever more.

As always, my 'shortlist' was massively too long, so I have had to leave out many of the beautiful photographs that I would have liked to include.  This selection is probably still a little lengthy, but I really didn't want to leave out any more - let the page load for a moment and come back and enjoy it all.  A huge, heartfelt thank you to every couple who has invited me to photograph their day for them this year - you have all been absolutely extraordinary and I am only here, doing this, because you put your faith in me and trust me to record this most special of times for you.  Thank you also to all the brilliant suppliers I have worked with, all helping to make these wedding days so magical for everyone involved.  Thank you all - have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.  This was 2014:

Bristol Engagement Photography: Milly and Duncan in Clifton

I really love winter weddings, with that beautiful, soft light and everyone wrapped up warmly inside with fires roaring - I think there is something so romantic about them and I really can't wait for Milly and Duncan's wedding day at the beginning of January!  If we have weather like we had for their engagement shoot in Bristol then I will be particularly delighted.  Here are a few of my favourite images from our stroll through beautiful Clifton.  We started at the bench where they got engaged, and walked up to watch the sun setting over the Clifton Suspension Bridge - it was truly glorious.

Best of Family Photography 2014

As the end of 2014 approaches, one of my very favourite jobs is looking back through the whole year to put together a compilation of favourite images.  Rather than mixing all my work together, I thought I'd give family photography its own blog post, so this is what I'm sharing here today.  From week old newborn babies photographed at home, to family beach days, wet and windy Devon farms and glorious autumn woodlands, this is a glimpse at what I've been up to with the families that I've photographed this year.

I am delighted that so many people have asked me to spend time with their families and create images for them - it has been a huge pleasure to be invited into so many wonderful lives with my camera.  It has been amazing to visit couples whose weddings I have photographed, and see them growing into families; to visit babies that I first photographed as newborns, now as older children, some with new younger siblings.  I have loved getting to know new families, spending time together and getting a sense of who they are and what they enjoy doing together.  I have loved splashing through waves and puddles, exploring forests, climbing rocks, building sandcastles, chasing fish, dancing, singing, pulling faces and laughing a lot!  And I have loved being able to give these experiences back to those families, through the images created - a beautiful record of each wonderful family, captured at this particular point in their lives. I couldn't include everything, but here are some of my favourite family moments, portraits and general silliness from this past year:

Two sisters splashing in the sea
Young girl playing in the forest
Black & white portraits of two sisters

Beautiful October sunshine: a preview of Clare & David's wedding

Amazing.  I wait patiently all year for a floral crown, then I see two in two weeks!  In yesterday's glorious October sunshine, Clare and David celebrated their wedding at Clare's family home, Kiftsgate Court in Gloucestershire.  Clare looked incredible, wearing an altered version of her mother's vintage wedding dress and the prettiest flower crown.  Despite the pouring rain throughout yesterday morning, the afternoon turned into the most perfect October day, with the autumn sun warming the beautiful gardens at Kiftsgate for their reception. Congratulations to Clare and David - your wedding was gorgeous to photograph and you were such a wonderful and lovely couple!  Here is the tiniest of peeks at your wedding day:

Kiftsgate Court gardens are open to the public and utterly beautiful - I would highly recommend a visit some time!

Woodland engagement shoot: Hannah & Rob

Hannah and Rob are getting married in Devon next year, and I really can't wait for their wedding!  Tipis, games, a relaxed and fun atmosphere - it sounds wonderful!  But that is next May - first of all, we spent a really lovely autumn afternoon walking through the woods in East Devon for their pre-wedding shoot.  It was lovely to hear more about their wedding plans, and spend some time having a play with the camera and taking some photos of them both together.  Here is a little peep at their session...

Exeter family newborn photography

I photographed this beautiful family recently in Exeter, with gorgeous newborn baby Anna and her two sisters.  It was particularly wonderful to return to this family, as I photographed the sisters a couple of years ago when they were tiny.  It was so lovely to see them all growing together and the older girls being amazing with their new sister.  Here is a little peek at their session...
